2024 Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (coming soon!)

CPA New Brunswick will be offering its free tax clinics in a virtual format, available in a first-come, first served format from March 1 to March 28, 2024!

CPA New Brunswick has partnered with the Canada Revenue Agency for the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)!

Volunteers help Canadians who have low income and a simple tax situation prepare their income tax return.

We want to help!

CPAs from across New Brunswick are volunteering their time to contribute their professional expertise to help prepare 2023 income taxes for those in need. CPAs will receive all documentation electronically and conduct these meetings virtually.

Eligible applicants (see link to the criteria below) will be matched with CPA volunteers so that they may process and file returns online before the April 30, 2024, tax deadline.

To ensure all returns will be ready in time to the meet this deadline, the program will be accepting applications on a first-come, first served basis until Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 4:00 pm, or until all available slots have been filled.

About free tax clinics

A free tax clinic is a place where eligible people can get their tax returns done for free. These clinics are hosted by community organizations across Canada through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program.

Please note that these will be available by appointment only, and they will be conducted virtually via the method mutually-agreed upon by both parties. Appointments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis; or until all available slots are filled. Volunteers will try to reach you twice, and then your name will be removed from the list if you do not return their messages.

You may be eligible for help at a free tax clinic if you have a modest income and a simple tax situation. Please click HERE for eligibility requirements.

To apply

Please bookmark and return to this page on or after Friday, March 1, 2024 to apply!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to us via our Contact Form.

Please fill out the online form above to confirm your eligibility to participate. By submitting your information you give the volunteer permission to eFile on your behalf. You will be contacted within seven business days by a volunteer to set a mutually agreeable time to go through the tax filing questions. You will be asked to send clear pictures or scans via secure email of your identification and tax slips.

The CPA NB tax clinics are virtual only (no in-person; no phone-only appointments). Other organizations have tax clinics similar to ours, and some may offer a “drop off service” (where the public can put their documents in a secure dropbox, which is collected by a volunteer). If our clinic isn’t suitable, you can also visit the CRA’s website for more options. Under the “Find a tax clinic in your area” link, you can search for local tax clinics by city/town. This listing will also indicate if it’s in person; virtual; or drop off. Last year we also had some clients without access to/knowledge of technology have a friend or family member talk to the CPA volunteer with their permission and on their behalf.

Please fill in an application request via the CPA NB website in the name of each person who needs to file.

Please note that it may be seven business days before you hear from a volunteer. If you have not been contacted within seven business days, please contact us.

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to recommend any one tax software program over another. However, the Government of Canada's website does have a list of free tax filing software you may select from. Should you decide to use CPA NB’s virtual tax clinic (where all correspondence will be done by email and phone (no in-person appointments)), you can read more (including eligibility requirements), and request an appointment, on our website.
