The Corporate Financial Planning team provides corporate governance on matters specific to investment governance and financial planning. As process owners of budgeting, forecasting and investment governance, the team is responsible for leading these key business processes within the organization. The team plays a significant role in the general rate application. The team is responsible for managing finance functions required by corporate services departments involving OM&A expense and capital expenditure budgets, forecasts, and cost control reporting and analysis, including energy efficiency services funding claims and reporting. The team plays a key role in the organization by supporting the development and deployment of business solutions, providing support to management in decision making, guiding the organization towards its strategic objectives, and assisting the organization in sustainably creating value.

Responsibilities

The Finance Specialist is responsible for the quality, completeness, accuracy and integrity of the components of the general rate application, traditionally prepared by the corporate finance departments (financial reporting and financial planning).  This includes evidence, interrogatory responses and undertakings as part of the general rate application and variance account recovery application.  Additionally, the Finance Regulatory Specialist is responsible for compliance filings and minimum filing requirements and for leading process improvements in matters related to general rate application filings including researching practices of other Canadian utilities.

Key functions include:

  • Lead the regulatory process in corporate finance including evidence preparation for the general rate applications and variance account recovery applications, including adherence to minimum filing requirements, interrogatory responses and undertakings.  As well as attending corporate regulatory affairs review meetings;
  • Prepare and submit compliance filing reporting as ordered by the Energy and Utilities Board including monthly variance account recovery reporting;
  • Support other related regulatory functions, including potential interim rate applications and large capital project filings.

Qualifications

Our ideal teammate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Commerce;
  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant Designation;
  • Eight years of progressive experience within a finance, budget/accounting and/or reporting (financial/compliance) environment;
  • Experience in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
  • Experience with challenging results and providing advice/recommendations;
  • Strong organizational/analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong at problem solving and providing advice/recommendations;
  • Ability to identify and raise awareness of financial and non-financial risks;
  • Leadership skills and ability to manage processes.

An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
