The Office of the Auditor General, located in Fredericton, is an independent office that serves the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly. The Auditor General assists the Legislative Assembly in holding the government accountable by reporting on government's performance and stewardship of public funds and resources. This is accomplished by completing financial statement and performance audits. The findings of the office are issued in the Auditor General's annual report to the Legislative Assembly and through appearances before the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
We are seeking a professional auditor for our financial audit team. Job responsibilities include planning, preparing and executing financial statement and other financial audits, liaising with our auditees, preparing audit working papers and related position papers and analysis. Starting salary within the stated range will depend on experience, skills and qualifications.
Qualifications
Required qualifications: the candidate must possess a university degree, a CPA designation, have a minimum of two years financial statement audit experience, have current knowledge of accounting and auditing standards and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Applicants must clearly demonstrate these required qualifications to be given further consideration.
Additional qualifications that are not requirements of this position, but would be considered assets, include experience in one or more of the following areas: public practice audit experience, IT audit experience, experience in supervision and mentoring staff, oral and written proficiency in French, specialized professional designation(s), and experience working in the New Brunswick public sector. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of these asset qualifications in addition to the required qualifications in order to be given further consideration.
Required competencies include quantitative and qualitative financial analysis skills, communications skills, a client service mindset, strategic thinking, initiative and the ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
A writing sample as well as language proficiency testing may be required as part of the interview process. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance prior to appointment. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level.
